Quora launches Top Writer program, selects Andrew for inaugural group

Today we are excited to announce the Top Writers program on Quora -- a way for Quora to recognize some of our most valuable contributors.
Top Writers 2012 is a group of remarkable people with a talent for communicating with expertise, knowledge, authenticity, and empathy. Some people in the group are experts in specific fields, while others are simply great writers with a talent for describing the human condition and the world around us. Some are professional writers; most are not. All have contributed immensely to Quora and the Quora community.
How Top Writers 2012 were selected
How did we choose who would be in be in Top Writers 2012? We looked at 3 primary considerations:1. Recent contributions: high-quality answers written, over the last year
2. Overall contributions: high-quality answers written, regardless of date
3. Topic expertise: high-quality answers written in one or more unique topics
Our decision criteria included: number of high-quality answers, upvotes per answer, and accrued credits. We also included a number of admins and active reviewers in Top Writers who aren't active writers on the site. Our admins and reviewers play a key role in curating and editing Quora's content.
Most people in Top Writers have been recently active on the site, although we've made a few exceptions this year to recognize people whose legacy contributions are special. Next year, when we choose Top Writers 2013, our focus will be on the previous year's activity.
