We treat shoes like fashion accessories even though they are medical devices—so they’re one of the most interesting usability challenges. It’s part creative (pattern-making), meditative (stitching), and hard work (soling).

Funny story—I used to get junk mail in Arabic from satellite TV companies. I had no idea why until ~2009 when I made some friends from Egypt, and they explained that Hamada is a nickname for Mohammed. That’s much cooler than the actual meaning, mountain farmer.
